An Update

The semester has somehow passed us and we have nearly forgotten to blog. I figured that it is time for an update and a rundown of what has gone on this semester:
  1. Passion: Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy. It was one really awesome week spent in Atlanta together, with 44,000 other people all worshiping the Lord. It was in that week that I saw that I wanted to be a part of the generation that would make the Lord's name known and who would rise up.
  2. Carolina Basketball: Is there anything sweeter than Carolina basketball?? I really don't think that there is. Being in the Dean Dome on game night is just ecstatic and the crowds go wild and there is not a better place in the world I can imagine being. This season was a really good one, had a few ups and downs and it didn't end the best way imaginable, but it was a good season over all.  It's safe to say that our house is semi-obsessed with Henson and Kendall. They're just absolutely adorable. Jen wins biggest basketball fan. She was super on top of that lottery and always trying to get to those games. Still slightly bitter that we didn't go to NOLA.
  3. Half Marathon: You better believe it- Sarah, Sydney, Jen, Elaine, and I all crossed the finish line of the Tobacco Road Half Marathon. It was quite an accomplishment for ourselves and I was definitely rather pleased. Sydney and Sarah have decided that running is not for them, so they have picked up.....
  4. INSANITY: Erin, Sydney, Sarah, and Anna are insane and have decided to all being Insanity, the work out program. Which for the rest of us it either makes us feel bad about ourselves for not doing us or it provides us with endless amounts of entertainment as they jump up and down in the living room with the trainer. As Jen so nicely put it, she wants to do what makes her happy, and jumping up and down does not make Jen happy so she isn't doing it. That's my motto as well now...
  5. Thursday night pancakes has lived on and continues to be some of my favorite nights here at the McMansion. The most latest specialty pancake was brownie pancakes and they were quite the hit.
  6. Find Your Leader Young Life Clubs: Seeing as how five of the girls in our house are Young Life leaders, we tend to find ourselves in quite odd outfits and odd situations. We're on all different teams, but all of our teams have had a "Find Your Leader" night at some point. It has led to many hilarious costumes and dress up evenings. Anna and I both rocked the emo/gothic look, Jen and Jess were old women, and Sydney was a business woman. Being a Young Life leader never gets boring...
  7. Dip Party: When I dip, you dip, we dip.... SuperBowl.
  8. Anna's 21st Black and White Party: When Anna Wong turned 21, McMansion was prepared to celebrate. It only seemed fitting to have a classy party so we went with a black and white party. There was a photo booth and all. It was definitely a blast to have so many people over and to be able to take so many hilarious pictures.
  9. Jess's 21st Birthday: Jess has turned 21 as well this semester!!! All of us went to dinner at Bali Hai together and had a wonderful game night. Jen snoozed the entire game night.... she's getting old... she's a senior. So now there are only 3 McMansion girls who are 20.
  10. It SNOWED. One time. Only half an inch, but that didn't hold us back.
  11. Sydney has successfully changed her life plan for after college about 20 times. So you never know what it will be. She likes to be mysterious about the future. Keep you on your toes, ya know? But it has been confirmed that she will graduate next year.... ptl. Her current hope is to work at the Dale House for a year after graduation.
  12. Considering 5 of us are Young Life leaders, leader placement is a huge moment in all of our lives. We have 5 different teams within our house so new leaders for all five teams makes for an exciting day. For our placement event, every team dresses up with a theme and it always tends to be a funny day. DA/Trinity went with the Hunger Games theme, East did Men in Black, Cedar Ridge wore pun costumes, and Chapel Hill went with a tacky prom theme.
  13. Jen is ending her last semester of college ever. We are going to miss having her as a fellow undergrad but she will be in the MAC program in the Business School next year so she isn't leaving the McMansion quite yet.
  14. We have signed up for World Race information and pamphlets. Well really, only Jen and I have, but still... World Race is sending information to us and Helen is e-mailing Jen... Who knows where this may lead. I have become obsessed with World Race blogs. Check this one out, it has challenged me so much and has truly inspired me.
  15. Jen, Syd, and I decided to raise Hell one Friday evening this semester. All that this really entailed was exploring and reaking havoc at Duke. We successfully ran all over the football field and made our way into the intramural gym. We also got to see K-ville and all the crazy Duke fans that sleep outside for tickets... We're above that here at UNC.
  16. SK2K12... Get rocky. But really, we rocked the boat. Well only 4 of us did, on a cruise! Sydney went to Florida and chased the sun with her mom. Jess and Erin went to the beach with some of Drew's friends. I went to the Bahamas on a cruise with my high school friends and Jen, Anna, and Sarah all went on one too with some other friends.
  17. The cockroaches have decided to come back out and bless us with their presence now that it's getting warm... NOT HAPPY.
  18. My friend Karlie came to visit for 10 days and live with us. It's like we had a ninth roommate which was super fun! She got to see the half marathon and the craziness that came with that. Karlie and I interned together in Michigan last summer at Timber Wolf Lake, the Young Life camp.
That is all for now :)  Here's a few pictures!

McMansion Meets WetMansion

Sorry that we have not blogged yet this semester. It's been a crazy one.

To exemplify,  I decided everyone ought to know about what the McMansion woke to this morning...... a busted hot water heater.... spewing water. I wake up at 9:00 because Sydney's friends were leaving and I half-awake walk downstairs where I'm bombarded by Jess and Sarah because their hot water wasn't working.  So I figure that I should investigate. Upon investigation in the utility closet, all Syd, Sarah and I hear is water spewing from somewhere...... and the light won't come on. If you can imagine, out utility closet is anything but organized. There are 2 old microwaves, 30 paint cans, bikes, a christmas tree, 3 vacuum cleaners, broken shelves, and anything else you can imagine on the floor.... all in front of the spewing water tank that I must now reach. Using the handy flashlight on my iPhone, Sarah and I deduce that water is leaking from multiple places on the heater. In order to be safe, we googled how to handle electrical fires (in case that were to happen and the utility closet blew up)... While we didn't have the required extinguisher, we were prepared with the knowledge. After a few minutes we figure out how to turn off the water source and how to turn of the water heater on the electric box. The water continued to drain from the heater, but luckily into a little drain in the floor... Guess that water is going under the house. We'll just have to worry about that one later.

But now, half of the house is without hot water. No hot water in any kitchen and the second floor bathrooms are straight cold water. Luckily, we have a second water heater for the third floor and the first floor bathroom. So the McMansion can shower until we get a new hot water heat.... so don't be concerned about that one. The only issue now is we can't wash any dishes with hot water. House dinner involved all paper plates and utensils.... thinking smart.

christmas break

Finally, all of McMansion is on Christmas break. I must say, I wasn't that desperate for Christmas break but it is very  nice to have absolutely nothing to do school wise. Absolutely noooo school work. We have unfortunately neglected our blog at the end of the semester. Everyone was so busy with exams and end of the semester things that no one has posted. I will be sure to update though on everything that has happened. In the mean time, MERRY CHRISTMAS from the McMansion!!!

my thoughts on taylor

i figured since jordan shared her thoughts on taylor, i'd share mine:

SHE IS AWESOME.

the end.

ps - i took these pictures! annaseeswong.com check it out!

taylor swift

Taylor Swift just came to Raleigh on Thursday night.  Anna, Sydney, and I went.  Anna went with some girls from Trinity where she leads Young Life and Sydney and I went together.  It was so great.  Taylor never ceases to amaze me.  I saw her when she did her Fearless tour and I loved seeing her on the Speak Now tour.  I am sure that I will go to a concert on her next tour as well.  She is just so sassy and so cute and exactly what I needed to brighten my day, after turning in my fourteen page rough draft.  She is going to be on 20/20 tomorrow night and I am so excited to watch it!  Anna has had us all watch this preview this week in order to get prepared.  She is so thoughtful and such a good role model.  Love her.

After a Week of Training.... Or Rather Pre-Training

I have officially been training for a week now for this half marathon.  I don't know if we would even technically call it training yet, because it's really pre-training.  Official training begins the first week of December, but that training also includes a 5 mile run.  Ummmm....... we can't run 5 miles yet.  So, that has led to pre-training.  Pre-training has gone surprisingly well.  Now don't get me wrong, that does NOT mean that I love running and that I want to run everyday.  No. No. No.  Running is still not my favorite thing, but I do feel good afterward and feel accomplished.  I ran Sunday last week with Sarah right when we got home from the beach (figured we had to kick start pre-training otherwise it would never happen).  Then Monday and Wednesday Erin, Syd, and I were up at 6:45 to run.  Friday (the worst) Erin and I decided to run to Kenan Stadium and do stadiums.  Um....  Stadiums are not fun for the record.  Erin had a pretty successful day, but I was not feeling the stadiums.  Needless to say, they're over with now.  This morning Erin and I went to Amanda's and ran with her.  Amanda has already run 2 marathons before and is in really good running shape sooo she ran 3 miles before we even got to her house (running with us would not have been a good enough workout for her ha.)  The 3 of us ran this loop in a nearby neighborhood and it was on such a great trail.  Afterward we went back to Amanda's and had cinnamon rolls and coffee.  I would have to say that that was the best part of the entire running experience.  It's looking up though, it's looking up.  We're getting better and better.... sorta.  Tomorrow morning, Erin and I will be up and at 'em before church.  It's time to seize the day with this whole running thing...

The updates shall continue...  Hopefully in a few months from now there will be a blog on how we all finished the half marathon.... Hopefully being the key word.
